The project

With the OaksLab team, we built a trusted, institutional-grade trading venue for private company shares.

It gives decision-makers real-time insight into the private market, backed by expert analysts and in-depth data.

The challenge

Buying and selling private company shares is complex. The platform serves very different people, from employees selling their first shares to professional brokers, so each transaction had to be clear and trustworthy for all of them.

The hardest part was understanding each situation correctly, because the system was very complex and sometimes confusing. Making the platform easy to use and understand was the key, and we had to test it many times.

My role

I joined OaksLab as a Senior UI Designer on Nasdaq Private Market.

I worked on the design system, the SaaS platform, the mobile app and updates to the landing page, and I pushed for a cleaner, more modern look across all of them.

In the design system, which is based on Ant Design, I added new nested components and made a few changes to existing ones.

How I worked

Understand first, then prototype, test and ship in short sprints.

Together with the UX team, I made sure we understood each problem or new feature correctly. After a series of deep dives, we quickly built a first prototype, presented it to management and ran user tests at the same time.

After we evaluated the results, I prepared the handoff materials and worked closely with developers during the build. We usually delivered new features in sprints of two to four weeks.

What I learned about finance and trading

In finance, clarity matters more than nice visuals.

I designed minimal screens and flows that still give people all the information they need to make the right decision. It took many test sessions to understand how finance and trading professionals make their decisions.
